Famous Landmarks. Lincoln Monument, Washington DC, U.S.A The Lincoln Memorial is an American national monument built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. The 36 enormous columns represent each of the states in the union at the time of the Presiden’s death in 1865. The Memorial has been the site of many famous speeches, including Martin Luther King’s ‘ I HAVE A DREAM’ 6 Million people visit the statue every year. The statue is 19 feet tall and sitting.
